Arsenal make last-ditch bid for Welbeck
Tottenham were deep into negotiations to prise the striker away from Old Trafford but Arsene Wenger's side are attempting to hijack a deal, with a medical on standby
Arsenal are in talks with Manchester United to sign Danny Welbeck, Goal understands.

Arsene Wenger has sanctioned a late bid to land the England international after failing to capture Radamel Falcao and Loic Remy over the last 48 hours.
The Gunners are trying to snatch Welbeck from under the noses of Tottenham, who were in advanced discuassions to sign him on loan.

Goal understands that Arsenal want to sign Welbeck on a permanent deal but United would rather that he join the north Londoners just for the season.

Welbeck, who trained with England at Arsenal's London Colney headquarters on Monday, is on standby to undergo a medical at the centre.

Wenger had previously ruled out making moves for either Welbeck or Radamel Falcao but the latter's imminent loan to United has changed his stance on the former.

An injury to Olivier Giroud has left the Gunners with only Yaya Sanogo as a full-time centre forward, though Alexis Sanchez, Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott are all seen as options to fill in.
