1.
A former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir
el-Rufai has faulted state pardon granted to convicted office holders,
saying that such could lead to heavy corruption in the country. He
argued that such should be controlled. He was speaking on the topic,
“Corruption, and the challenge of good governance’’ at a lecture
organised by an association of Muslim businessmen, The Companion, in
Lagos on Sunday.
2. Open market pharmacies will be shut as from
July this year. This was disclosed by the Director General, NAFDAC, Dr.
Paul Orhi. Orhii while speaking during the inauguration of a
pharmaceutical facility worth N70m, built by Worldwide Commercial
Ventures Limited in Matori, Lagos said there were many negatives
attached to the operation of open market pharmacies.

President Goodluck Jonathan while commending the leadership of the PDP
over the recent victory of the party in Ekiti election urged the party
to also deliver Osun, Lagos and other states to the party. Mr President
spoke when members of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC), led by
its Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu visited him at the Presidential
Villa, Abuja, to congratulate him on the success recorded in Ekiti
state.
4.No fewer than five million persons have been displaced as
a result of insurgency in the country. The Chairman, House Committee on
Appropriation, Hon. John Owan-Enoh said this while delivering a lecture
at the 2014 Annual World Refugee Day held in Ibadan.
5. The
National Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Chief John Oyegun, and the
national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu were on Sunday in
Osun state to meet with the former governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola,
in Okuku. The APC leaders and others were in the state to solicit the
support of the former military administrator of Lagos State, saying they
wanted him to be part of their mission.
6. Minister of Police
Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan at the weekend reacted to the claim by
former governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke that the Minister
punched him on his chest, saying if he had punched the former governor,
he wouldn’t have survived it, threatening to confront Adeleke in a
physical fight whenever he is out of office as a member of the Federal
Executive Council FEC.
7. At least 40 persons, were killed during
the weekend when suspected Boko Haram fighters stormed the villages of
Chuha A, Chuha B, and Korongilim in Chibok Local Government Area of
Borno State. The attackers reportedly destroyed houses, shops and
vehicles after taking away foodstuff and livestock.
8.
A suspected to be a Boko Haram suicide bomber on Sunday in a military
post at Gwoza, near a secondary school, killed three soldiers and
leaving three others injured. Report says the bomber came through Wala
and Warabe villages on high speed and hit the military post, resulting
to a deafening sound.
9. Members of Edo State House of Assembly
will be sitting today even with the ongoing crisis confronting the
Assembly. Ahead of today sitting, Governor Adams Oshiomhole has advised
the four suspended Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers in the
House to obey the court order which restrained them from attending the
House sittings.
10.
Christain Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ughelli North Local Government
Area chapter, Delta State, has responded to the allegation raised by the
Sultan of Sokoto that the Boko Haram insurgency in the north resulted
from the injustice meted on the North by Jonathan’s administration. CAN
blamed the operation of the group on religious institutions in the
North and not the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
