A human rights group under the umbrella of Youth and Conflict
Resolution Initiative (YCRI), has lambasted former President, Olusegun
Obasanjo over his recent letter to President Goodluck Jonathan where the
former accused the latter of destroying Nigeria and the PDP.
YCRI in a statement signed by its Director of International
Relations, Comrade Efemena Agadama said, Obasanjo’s letter was clearly
without respect for the office of the President.
Agadama who accepted the fact that it was right to publicly
criticise, oppose or discredit a government, however maintained that it
is unconstitutional to play tribes against one another or to falsify
facts in an attempt to denigrate the office of the president.
According to the statement, “It’s a tragedy of shameful acceptance
that the said letter was written by a former president whose government
entrenched lawlessness as constitutional order.
“The writer, Obasanjo, should be reminded, if he has forgotten, that
it was his government that created all the security problems plaguing
Nigeria today. Boko Haram was founded by Mohammed Yusuf, during
Obasanjo’s first tenure but he failed to nip it to the bud
