I want the man who raped me to die in prison –Eight-year-old rape victim

Nnena

In yet another case of defilement that seems to be spreading across board like a wildfire, it was the turn of an eight-year-old girl, identified simply as Nnena, penultimate weekend when she was violated by a man, Atipo Larry, whom she described as a customer in her mother’s shop.
As Nnena would tell Saturday PUNCH, the incident, which happened around Oparo Street in Fagba area of Lagos, on a Sunday afternoon, shortly after she and mum came back from church, was not the first time Larry would sleep with her, saying he had done ‘it’ with her on many occasions but that she was too scared to tell her mum, identified simply as Janet.
The little girl, whose father is no more, told our correspondent that Larry, who is said to be an ex-convict, used to come to buy things from her mum’s shop, which is outside Larry’s house. She recalled that her mum was not around the first time he did ‘it’ to her.

In the presence of her mother, who was visibly disturbed by the incident, Nnena said, “It started one afternoon when my mum was not around. I was the only one in the shop. When he came out of the house and saw me sitting in front of the shop, he gave me N50 to help him buy cigarette, pure water and Tom Tom and asked me to come and give him the items in his house.
“When I entered the sitting room, he told me not to tell anyone about what he wanted to do and that if I told anyone, he would kill me. He carried me and lay me on the floor, removed my dress and removed his. He lied on top of me and ‘did something.’ I was feeling pains in my body and I tried to shout but he covered my mouth.

Messi's reveals new boots in Barcelona

Messi's reveals new boots in Barcelona

Only 100 pairs of the Barca star's latest boots have been produced, but just 89 of them are going on sale to the public

Lionel Messi’s new limited edition boots — named ‘Messi 10/10’ — went on sale on Saturday at the Adidas store in Barcelona, but only 89 people will be able to get their hands on a pair.

Adidas have made 100 pairs of the boots in total, one of which will go the Barcelona star himself.

The remaining pairs not going on sale have been given to the 10 players the Argentina international supported through his ‘Chosen by Messi’ campaign.

Among those selected were Manchester United’s James Wilson and Chelsea duo Kenedy and Jeremie Boga, who is currently on loan at French side Rennes.

BPL: Chelsea still title favourites, says Cech

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech says he is surprised by the Blues’ poor start to the season, but insists they are still favourites to win the title.
The reigning Premier League champions have had a disastrous start to the campaign and sit 16th in the table, having won twice from their opening eight games.
Jose Mourinho has admitted the run of form is the worst period of his career, but has maintained he will not resign from his role.
And Cech, who left the club in the summer to join Arsenal, is confident the Stamford Bridge outfit will get out of the situation and challenge for the title.
“Their form surprises me because Chelsea are among the best in the Premier League,” he told iDNES.
“I am no longer there, so it is hard for me to evaluate what is going on. Anyway, the season is long and Chelsea are still favourites in my eyes.”
However, the Czech Republic international is happy with his new side’s current form and still feels they can put up a fight to win the league this term too.

Don’t abuse rights of civilians, Navy warns personnel

The Nigerian Navy has warned its personnel against abusing the rights of civilians in order to maintain the existing civil-military relationship.
Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Naval Command, Rear Adm. Atiku Abdulkadir, gave the warning on Saturday in Calabar while addressing ratings and officers.
Abdulkadir said the navy would not spare any of its personnel caught abusing the rights of the civilians.
“We are men and women in uniform, it is expected that we don’t abuse the rights of civilians whom we have sworn to protect.
“We must also be sound and resolute in the performance of our duties, but we must respect the rights of the civilian populace.
“There is a lot of wrong perception about the military by members of the public; we must conduct ourselves properly and observe basic rules,” he said.
According to him, it is important for personnel of the navy to follow the basic rules and do what is right in other to maintain the existing civil-military relationship.
