Anyone not worried about insecurity is irresponsible -Gowon

Former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, retd, on Tuesday expressed concern over the insecurity occasioned by the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram sect that has killed about 15,000 people so far since 2009.
Gowon, speaking to newsmen shortly after the flag-off Peugeot 301 production at PAN, in Kaduna State on Tuesday, said any Nigerian who was not worried about the insecurity in the land, is irresponsible.
The former Nigerian leader, however, exempted the President Jonathan-led government, whom he claimed was doing its best in ensuring that the country was at peace.
According to him, Nigerians must be blamed for the insecurity in the country; just as he said members of the Boko Haram insurgents were not Muslims.
Gowon noted that as one who had over the years worked with different Nigerians irrespective of ethnicity and religion, he knew that Islam was never a murderous religion.
He said members of the Boko Haram, probably were not Nigerians but imported just to distract Nigeria.

He said, “As far as security of Nigeria is concerned, everybody should be worried about the situation. Anyone who is not worried is irresponsible and I can assure you that this government is very responsible.
“ The government is trying its best to deal with security problems in the country. Who caused the security problem; it is caused by all Nigerians and the outsiders who are invited to cause the harvoc that we have in the country.
“Certainly Islam is not about murderous people. This group that is doing this is not probably Nigerian Islam but imported. Distractive Islam which is not the Nigerian Islam. So let us all put our heads together and deal with this particular problem.”
