THE Rivers State Police Command said on Thursday that it had arrested
three members of a 15-man gang who allegedly raped a 16 year-old girl
in Port Harcourt.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, who disclosed
this in Port Harcourt, identified the suspected rapists as Tambari
Dumlesi (40), Ikechukwu Akah (22) and Friday Esau.
Ogunsakin said the victim had reported the matter to the police on
June 23, 2014, adding that the incident occurred on Ogbuga Street in
Ogbunabali.
He explained that the victim, whose identity was hidden, had attended
a night party where she was given a glass of hot drink before she lost
consciousness.
The victim was said to have woken up with torn underwear and swollen private part.
“The victim has received medical treatment at the Police Clinic and
investigation is still going on in order to arrest other culprits that
are currently at large.
“I have since my assumption of office as the Commissioner of Police
on February 12, 2014, continued to ensure that there are no hiding
places for criminals,” Ogusakin added.
